September 2018
Not being an artist born of whole cloth but rather having had to find my way through years of experimentation and self-teaching, there have been periods of profound grace during which the work might propel itself into new territory or rediscover a familiar path with new eyes. My best paintings are the artifacts of those periods of grace.
The paintings of last winter titled SEASONS ON LAND were the result of one of those periods. Last winter I reinvented the watercolor.
These oils are an aesthetic continuation of that series. They are also something new; a balancing act, applying all I know about painting to the pursuit of all I do not know. Within these large oil paintings new territory continues to be revealed.
